Problem
The client wanted a more contemporary, Scandinavian flair to the house. They needed to replace flooring in this room and the adjoining living areas. They were ready to purchase some new furniture. This room was crowded and looked a little dated. The large fabric cornice overpowered the space.

Solution
The transformation began by selecting a new hardwood floor that was carried throughout the house for a calm warm continuity.  Painting the fireplace and replacing the fabric cornice with a wooden painted one, instantly simplified and freshened the space, helping to move towards the new desired look. We exchanged the seating with pieces from the family-room and arranged them to separate an intimate seating area from an extended gathering area by the entrance. Their great contemporary styling just needed an update of new cushion fabric to look fabulous. The granite slab was shortened and moved to the entry wall across from the piano welcoming you into the room. We accessorized with a mix of materials including wood, glass and pottery focusing on repeated themes and balance, allowing each piece to contribute to the overall effect of an interesting, inviting, peaceful space.
